What is TÜV and why does it matter?
Why TÜV Certification Matters
TÜV (Technischer Überwachungsverein) is Germany’s premier independent technical safety authority. Unlike CE marking, which allows self-declared compliance, TÜV certification provides rigorous third-party testing—offering a higher level of trust and verification.
For portable EV chargers, this matters more than ever. TÜV testing covers over 200 safety and performance checks, ensuring electrical protection, mechanical durability, and safe, consistent power delivery—validated by neutral German experts with no stake in the outcome.
When it comes to your vehicle and personal safety, independent verification is not just better—it’s essential.
“CE defines the rules. TÜV makes sure you actually follow them. That’s why TÜV means trust—especially when charging safety is on the line.”
Understanding TÜV vs. CE: What’s the Difference?
CE Marking: A Legal Minimum
CE (Conformité Européenne) is a mandatory European mark that indicates a product complies with health, safety, and environmental standards. However, CE marking allows manufacturers to self-declare compliance—meaning they can conduct and report their own tests without third-party involvement.
TÜV Certification: Verified by Experts
TÜV is not a standard itself but an independent certification body with over 150 years of engineering heritage. TÜV verifies product compliance through accredited testing laboratories, offering neutral validation far beyond manufacturer claims.
Why TÜV Is Critical for Portable EV Chargers
Portable EV chargers are used in dynamic and sometimes unpredictable environments. TÜV testing includes:
- Overheating simulation under extreme conditions
- Electrical fault scenario and surge protection testing
- Impact resistance, cable stress, and connector durability
- Power delivery, thermal monitoring, and safety shutdown checks
This ensures your charger operates safely under real-world conditions—whether at home, on the road, or in challenging weather.
The Value of Independent Certification
Unlike CE self-declarations, TÜV requires neutral experts to test each unit, delivering peace of mind and product integrity. Though it adds cost and time to development, TÜV certification is a long-term investment in quality, safety, and trust.
The Gold Standard in Germany—and Beyond
In Germany, TÜV is the benchmark for technical safety. Consumers actively seek out the TÜV mark because it consistently signals higher product reliability. That’s why TÜV-certified products are favored across automotive, industrial, and consumer sectors.

FAQs
About the cable – exactly how long is it?
The input cable is 1.2 meters and the output cable is 6 meters. Including the charger body, the total length is approximately 7.5 meters.
Is the PC200 compatible with my car?
The PC200 features a Type 2 connector, which is the standard for most electric vehicles and public AC charging stations across Europe. We haven’t encountered any compatibility issues with EVs that have a Type 2 port. If you’re unsure or run into any problems, feel free to reach out — we’re happy to assist!
What’s the difference between the PC200 3k6 and the PC100 3k6? Which one should I choose?
Both models offer the same functions and safety features. They are TÜV certified and include built-in overheating protection in the plug.
PC200 is built with a reinforced body — it's crush-resistant and can withstand a car driving over it. It features mechanical buttons and comes in classic white.
PC100 is slightly lighter in build, features touch-sensitive buttons, and comes in vibrant color options like pink and green.
Your choice mainly depends on your preference for style.
Does the Rheidon PC200 require installation?
No installation is needed. The PC200 is a plug-and-play charger equipped with a Schuko plug, which is compatible with standard household sockets across most of Europe.
